[Howto]: Opposition of Lobel frames

[Howto]: Opposition of Lobel frames

Postby Eric » Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:17 pm

Here is the step-by-step construction of a shape made from 2 Lobel frames placed in opposition, as presented in this topic.

This one starts from a heptagon.
Apply exactly the same approach if you want to start from a triangle, a square, a pentagon, a hexagon, or even an octagon (for this latter, you will have to place larger spheres at the ends because the angles are too closed at the junction of the 2 Lobel frames).

At this stage, as the surface obtained is not flat, it is necessary to start raising the edges which start from the vertices of the base polygon (here the heptagon).
We begin to give the wavy shape.

We just made 3 rows of triangles around the base polygon.
This number of rows must imperatively be odd (1, 3, 5, ...).
This allows to put in opposition the 2 Lobel frames, by applying a rotation of one relative to the other, to align the vertices of one with the edges of the other (and vice versa).

Now it's time to start closing the shape by building the second lobel frame.

The tricky part is successfully closing each new row of triangles by reshaping the shape to give it its final volume.
Remember that the bumps on the bottom surface are opposite the hollows on the top surface. And vice versa.
