Your Geomag (and Supermag) Collection

Your Geomag (and Supermag) Collection

Postby Wagyx » Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:42 pm

Hello there,
This week-end, I have been working on a Geomag collection viewer
https://asliceofcuriosity.fr/assets/geomag-counter/index.html

I was inspired by the picture at the bottom of Tychi's website.
I guess it is the result of the collection map tool on Rafael Millán's website.
Could anyone confirm that ?

I have also included the Supermag items since that's what I have.
I don't have any Geomag so I am missing a proper reference for the actual set of colors for the rods and panels.
If anyone could hint me on any resource so I could improve the render?

There is still a few things to correct and improve.
I am open to suggestions.

I am drawing the image using svg vector format. If you want to keep the picture.
Use right click -> Inspect then select the svg root node and copy the exterior of the HTML and paste it into a notepad (not word) and save to svg.

I hope you enjoy it !

Have a good week.

Hi Wagyx,

Cool work!

I guess it is the result of the collection map tool on Rafael Millán's website.
Could anyone confirm that ?
According to the link (which no longer works and which points to the old site of the late Raphael) which is below the image on Tychi's site, I would say yes.

Regarding the colors you will find in this post the most recent colors.
But there are many more because there have been special series.
For example, in addition to those mentioned in the post, I have the following rod colors in my collection:
- White
- pastel yellow
- pastel pink
- pastel blue
- pastel purple
- phosphorescent (glow in the dark)

There are also more exotic and much rarer colors, as you can see in Mary's collection ;)
And in particular the black, white and gray panels, as well as the black and gray rods.
I quote: "The grey panels were translucent, the white and black panels are opaque."
In addition to all these colors, I know there are also orange rods.

Small suggestion: a collector particularly likes to contemplate his collection as a whole.
Perhaps an option should be provided to have the rods all displayed, rather than just their number.

Anyway, keep up the great work!

Hi Eric,

I have updated the viewer with :
- some fixes on color
- a download button to save the svg file on your computer
- a change of layout for the rods
- some fixes on the length of Supermag rods

I am thinking of a second version with:
- a complete change of the interface with better graphics for the components
- a different layout for the table with dynamic row editing and more choices (for color notably)
- a way to specify 3 kinds of layout for the components (flat, stacked or 7 segments).
It may take quite some time before this second version is ready since all of that is a lot of work so be patient.

Happy Easter !

I gave it a try.
Great job!
It's nice to be able to see your entire collection at a glance :)

I love the idea of displaying the rods in stacks.
I personally store them in piles of 500 (5x10x10) which are practical for handling and fast counting (A collector likes to count and recount his collection ;)):
- 1 pile is 500,
- a plate is 50
- and 2 threads are 10.
Do not try more than 10 in height, otherwise it will deform under the weight.  I put cardboard separators to more easily separate the stacks stuck together.  I double them so I can slide my hand between. And above all, I use a thin plastic card, like a credit card, to easily separate the plates within a stack. With a little practice, it works really well and it is very efficient!

Stacks of 500 rods

Bug found:
- Yellow triangular panels do not display

Ideas and suggestions:
- Write the number of items below each group of pieces
- You have to be able to count the number of elements in a group at a glance, without being a god in mental calculation (the number of elements in a line must be constant (not the case for the rods) and easy to multiply in your head). I did not understand the display of the spheres (the lines are not always the same length depending on the total number)
- Waiting for my colors to be implemented ;)

And finally, thank you again for what you do for the community, who unfortunately remains very silent, but continues to read the forum according to the number of views on each thread. :|

Happy Easter to everybody!

Hi, thank you for your job.
The image was created on the website of Rafael Millán. Unfortunately, it no longer corresponds to the current state.
I miss glow sticks

Hey there,

Here is the second version of the collection viewer.
https://asliceofcuriosity.fr/assets/geo ... index.html

Any suggestion is appreciated.
I'll try to fill in some additional colors today or tomorrow.
I'm missing a lot regarding the panel colors of the Geomag KIDS sets.
Hope you enjoy it and please post your collection here !

Hello again,

Here are the changes from last time:
- fixing and adding some colors
- exporting and importing a dataset in a csv file
- exporting data to a PNG image
- adding some symbol cues to help identify entries in the table

Hi Tychi,
I have added the glow sticks and transparent panels in KIDS.

I have also changed the domain name of my website so the link is now:
https://asliceofcuriosity.fr/assets/geomag-collection/index.html

The old one will keep working at least till September or maybe till next year but I won't be updating it with new pieces and fixes.
The same is true for all the other links that I have shared on this forum.
