My creations

Postby Wagyx » Fri Dec 29, 2023 10:54 pm

Hi there,

I am starting a thread to post my creations.
The first one was made this week, its almost a nonagonal ring, there is a gap at the bottom that is too large to be closed, but is large enough to fit both end balls.
Its other peculiarity is that it has an interior height of two squares.
Has anyone seen it before ?

I am using Supermag, so I make a square using both long rods for the perimeter and small rods for the diagonals (with an additional ball at the center).

Nice!
I don't have any geomags on hand at the moment, but I'm pretty sure you can close the ring by removing the inner cross from the outer squares. This will allow to deform them very slightly into diamond shapes and will help close the ring. You've probably already thought about it ;)

See you!

Thank you Eric,

yes you can definitely close the ring, I have a picture to prove it and I am also including the 3D model for both the open and closed shapes.

By the way, here is another one. Looks like a heart. It is basically made of icospheres.

I too played with icospheres a while ago ;) Have a look. (and also here and here)
If this can inspire other people to try experimenting and post their works here... Whatever the level, short rods, long rods. No shame, everyone can express themselves. We share with kindness!!!

I tried your nonagonal ring with geomags and square panels. Thanks, nice shape!
By reinforcing each square with a panel, I still managed to close the ring (probably thanks to the assembly tolerances).

I find the one above from Eric similar to this 13-Gon lovingly implemented here by Geomag Model Builder Nicoletta.

Hi Peter,

nice picture of three Almost 13 Square Antiprism Rings as I call them, linked together. "Almost" because the gap of the open ring is so very tiny.
Here is the 3D model for that.

The model of the day from my side is the Rowing Boat.

The model of the day is a bunch of bipentagonal pyramids stuck together.

I managed to build them, but the angles are too closed on some spheres for the Geomag rods which are wider at the ends than the Supermag.

Yeah I thought that might happen since Stella would not let me display use the Geomag view for the 3D models.
Same for this one I guess.
